Designing Your Own Sauna

The most important aspect of building a home sauna is planning and knowing what you want. Saunas you must know, should be simple, spacious and clean before you start planning. In Finland as I’ve written before is a time for relaxation, reflection and some times mediation. My friends last sauna that they built her father placed simple small star like lights in the ceiling. It was nothing large or sparkly but it had a twilight affect and it enhanced the sauna by 50%.

Other features that made her new sauna nice was the use of two small windows as opposed to one large one. My favorite part of their first sauna at the new home was the aroma, which was subtle but it was there. Oftentimes, in saunas if the door is not kept open or no type of fresh enhancement is included, the smell of old wood and mold can occur.

Outdoor Sauna Windows

“We are planning to build an outdoor sauna, and i was wondering if we should have a window in the sauna. We will be having a change room attached. Could you please give me your opinion on this”

This is a good question, should you build a window inside the outdoor sauna. My answer is yes. There are many reasons that it is good to have a window in the sauna. The beauty and nature to have the sauna outside and if you have a window the view of that nature. You must note that it is important if that you have cut two holes that will help with the ventilation for air to come in and out.
In the room attached one window would be good to have as well. So in both the sauna and changing room a window. Make sure the window in the sauna is small. About the size of a face and can open.

Planning your sauna

First thing is first, do you have any ideas what you would like your sauna to be like?

Traditional, Modern or Rustic? There are many questions that you must ask yourself.

Will the sauna be built inside your house or in the out-house? Or Cottage?

Are you comfortable with putting blinds in your home? If so, I recommend,discount window treatments.
